The town center, Plaza de los Naranjos, is right at the center of Marbella and is full of activity and life, whether it is day or night. It is an Andalusian-Moorish style square, which is named after the orange trees planted around that region.

Some interesting sights from every century can be found here, such as the Renaissance from the 15th century, the town hall that was built in the 16th century, and Casa del Corregidor from the 17th century.

Parking spaces are in abundance below the Avenida del Mar, which is a lovely promenade at the seaside, just a couple of minutes from the town center.

There are museums that store some of the region’s oldest historical pieces from the Roman settlements in Villa Romana and the thermal spas from the 3rd century. A 4th century cathedral from the Christian epoch in Vega del Mar exists.

There are many other attractions that exist dating back to the 9th century, such as Moorish ruins, fortresses, palaces, Spanish engravings, and famous paintings.Parks here hold some of the best bonsai collection in the whole of Europe. These are known as ‘micro-trees’. Other flora is the typical Mediterranean species.

Fiestas in Marbella

There are as many performances as there are traditional festivities for the tourist to feast and indulge in here at Marbella. The main carnival in the month of February is an international event, which is held on a large scale with complete colors and works. Feria is celebrated by the locals on 11th June every year. Historical Values of Burgos

The Burgos province is a popular tourist stop because it houses the famous path of Saint James. There are monuments of various shapes and designs; even if they are wall ruins, these structures hold a deep historical heritage for this province.

Scenic beauty

The beautifully carved Villafranca mountain landscape leads the way to San Juan de Ortega. This famous trek was named after the Saint who built this pathway and also the town’s church with Santo Domingo de la Calzada during the 12th century. Along the way, there are the 16th century Castle Olmillos and Castrojeriz, a medieval church fortress that lies in ruins. Another interesting medieval structure is the famous Ponteroso Bridge that has 11 arcs as recorded in some medieval literature.

La Ruta de los Pueblos del Norte, or the serene northern village route, is a quiet path for those who want to explore Spain unhurriedly. It is away from the standard mass tourism routes, and allows you to soak in the medieval times and ambience.Briviesca offers an ancient stone bridge and Santa Casilda Sanctuary as beautiful sights just 10 km away from the village.  Medina de Pomar is known as a picturesque town that boasts of the resplendent Alcazar castle, hermitage, and monastery. Frias is noted as a true medieval village that is dominated by a medieval castle built upon a high and huge rock.

Other places of interest include the 11th century Puentearenas, a Romanesque abbey, two ancient palaces, the Sedano and the Espinosa de los Monteros, Moradillo de Sedano church, which is a Romanesque structure from the 12th century, and the Rebolledo de la Torre, which is a 11th century temple. La Ruta de Los Pueblos del Sur is also known as the Southern Village route, and has a church of Gothic origin. Covarubias has a very historical palace and the impressive Doña Urraca stone tower. Nearby you will find the exceptional Monastery of Silos from the 11th century.

Folklore and Fiestas

There are a variety of archaic traditions in Burgos, which trace back to the original Iberian Peninsula culture as well as the medieval Christian Reconquest and Moorish cultures.  There are plenty of varied fiestas; some are extremely religious and spiritually based while others are more lively and informal. One such popular procession is the Easter week procession, which takes place on Good Friday; this is practiced with intense solemnity.Las Huelgas monastery holds a victory celebration where the Moors were defeated in 1212, with a second procession of Curpillos the following day in Corpus Christi.

The Fiesta de San Juan del Monte may be the most spectacular of all the processions here complete with traditional attire and amazingly adorned horse coaches. There are plenty of traditional festivities complete with picturesque traditional attire, which can last from one day to a fortnight. These are known as the Fiesta series in Burgos, inclusive of bullfights and exhibitions displaying folklore culture. Pagan war dances and Moorish dances taking place in the pique province of Burgos make these festivals an essential part of the inhabitants’ life and culture.

The Autonomous Community of Spain, which has the highest population, is Andalucía; it also has the 2nd largest surface in Spain, with differing landscapes, a mild climate, and a friendly population. All of these make it a very attractive tourist region.

Climate at Andalusia

There is plenty of sunshine every year, stretches of beaches full of golden sand, and lovely natural ports, making it a safe haven, to the Phoenician navigators, many decades ago.The Cadiz and Huelva coasts face the Atlantic Ocean, with its fine sand, whereas the Mediterranean coast, running from Almeria to the Strait of Gibraltar, has warmer waters, less wind, and a milder climate.

Sights of Andalusia

Ronda, modern part of Ronda

While visiting Spain, it is really necessary to go to Andaluzia. The rhythm of Flamenco and the Moorish echoes accompany you everywhere in this region.

Why Ronda?
This is the biggest rock in Andaluzia : Ronda lies over some gorges at a height close to 100 meters, extending to the Guadalevin River. After the gorges (known as „El Tajo”), lies Puente Nuevo or „The New Bridge”, that connects the old town with the new, „new” being a relative feature, since it dates from the XVIIIth century. Ronda is a popular town with lots of services for the tourists who come to visit it, including the antique shops. The town constructed in Andaluzia steel has kept a strong atmosphere, if you avoid the crowded summer months.

What to visit while in Ronda

The withdrown squares and the cobbled streets of  Old Ronda are very evocative and there are many places to visit in this area. One of the most beautiful and intimate is Palacio de Mondragon, which now hosts a little museum. The palace was built in 1314 as a residence of the Moorish king Abb el Malik. Fernando and Isabella lived here in 1485, and the palace’s facade was rebulit in the XVIIIth century. Around this palace the very beautiful gardens and the famous „patio” of the Spanish people can be admired.

A few steps away lies the magnificent „Parque Duquesa de Parcent”, dominated by the Santa Maria la Mayor Church, built on the side of a mosque, and by the Town Hall in Renaissance style , with an impressive „loggia”.Eastward below, on the principal road, there is the San Sebastian Church, and to the south are some of the Arab Ramparts, with double doors:  Puerta de Almocabar,a moorish one, and Puerta de Carlos V, a Renaissance one. If you go to see them, you will also see the beautiful facade of Palacio del Marquez de Salvatierra with its strange sculptures showing nude children, considered to be Columbian figures.

A more modern part of Ronda

In the new town, you are not allowed to miss the famous bullfights, at „Plaza de Torros”, where men have tried their luck against bulls since the year 1785. In the interior, in Museo Taurino, there are some exhibits with clothes of the toreadors, capes embroidered with beads, sequins and cordings, next to historical photos of bullfights.  Enjoy your stay in Ronda, and return here to fill your soul with some of the beauty of the Spanish people.

A Tranquil destination: Costa Dorada

Why Costa Dorada?

Millions of tourists from all around the world choose Spain as their holiday destination. Some come to Spain attracted by its major cities, others come for its unique architecture; but most of them come for its beaches and the clear waters. If you are looking for a place to go with your family and children, you have found the perfect one: Costa Dorada. Costa Dorada is famous for being a family holiday destination, due to its wide range of apartments that can be rented throughout the entire year.

The coast line is more than two hundred kilometers long, having fine sand beaches and the clearest waters in the region. Costa Dorada is formed out of twenty municipalities that host coquette villages with picturesque vineyards and olive groves, and almond and hazelnut crops that delight children.

Sightseeing in Costa Dorada

When you are in Costa Dorada, you have the opportunity to enjoy the sun and the beach, but you also have the opportunity to learn pieces of the history of Spain by visiting the sights in the region. Tarragona Cathedral, built in the 12th century in Calle Virgen Del Claustro, is a Christian church built, like many others in Spain, on the remains of an Arab mosque. The special thing about it is that it has been built in a Romanesque style with Gothic influences.

The Roman Amphitheatre is also worth visiting. It dates back to the second century and it has even hosted gladiatorial fights. The Roman Circus is even older, dating back to the first century. They are both Roman vestiges that show us the importance of their rule in the region. If you like museums, there are a few: Tarragona National Archeological Museum, Paleo-Christian Necropolis and Museum, and Salvador Vilaseca Regional Museum, in Reus.

Going to the Beach

When it comes to going to the beach, the list is long and they are all marvelous and unique in their own special way. The best thing to do is to just choose whichever is closest to the place where you are staying.

Accommodations

Costa Dorada is famous for the numerous apartments and villas that are at the disposal of tourists. Most of them choose the villas, because some of them offer traditional cuisine. So besides just delighting your eyes and relaxing you, you will also be delighting your senses if you choose a villa.

Ciudad Rodrigo

Castilla and Leon

You can almost hear the Moorish and Christian armies thundering and lighting in the plains of these lands, having castles here and there, superb cathedrals, numerous monasteries and Renaissance buildings built in golden stone. Castilla and Leon are very vast, sometimes arid, but always fascinating; this is however, the quintessence of the north of Spain. Here you can explore hidden villages, you can contemplate monasteries and Romanic churches, and climb the medieval parapets. It is a wonderful region of Spain, and also the region where you can find Ciudad Real.

About Ciudad Rodrigo

Ciudad Rodrigo is located on a geographical limb and the fortified city is one of the charming secrets that the north of Spain has never revealed. It is a city that still wears the history’s perfume without being affected by massive tourism. Things have changed with the new links that appeared on the highway leading to Oporto, in Portugal, towards Valladolid. The road comes back to life with the beginning of every new year, when the bullfighting season starts during the carnival that takes place in February; this is the period when the ”encierro,” (the ones who run the bulls), take control of the streets.

Wandering in Ciudad Rodrigo

The surrounding agricultural region is doubtless very prosperous. You can guess this from the unusual specialty of the city; el farinato, a sausage made of flour and fat, generally eaten with scrambled eggs. By eating this unique specialty of Ciudad Rodrigo you will receive the energy you need for sightseeing. Your sightseeing list must contain Enrique the 2nd de Tamara’s Castle, which is now a Parador. The austere walls wear the marks of the Roman foundations, and the embattled towers are spectacular when lighted at night.

The Cathedral has features dating back to the 12th century and the beautiful portal dates back to the 13th century. It  is a wonderful combination of architectural styles: the Portada la Virgen, the choir stalls built in an Isabelian style, richly sculptured by Rodrigo Aleman, the Renaissance altar made of alabaster and the galleries, which have a mixture of architectural styles. The Capilla de Cerralbo, situated in the near vicinity, is worth visiting thanks to the painting of the altar, realized by Jose Ribero. Plaza del Buen Alcalde is your final destination: it is the meeting point for all the citizens of Ciudad Rodrigo. It is a place full of life and passion. Yoi will feel wonderful in Ciudad Rodrigo.

Castilla-La Mancha

A Beautiful Territory

Castilla-La Mancha is a very fertile territory situated between Madrid and Andaluzia. Even though it is not the most interesting region in Spain, having flat terrain with very few people who live there, this is a very beautiful region with rural relishes. Castilla-La Mancha has two very interesting points of interest: Toledo and Cuenca.

Cuenca

Cuenca can be considered as the biggest surprise of Castilla-La Mancha. It is spectacularly situated on a cliff, between the Huenca and Jucar rivers. Cuenca is equally far from Madrid and Valencia, and it is very famous for its houses built on very abrupt slopes. They are called Casas Colgadas and you can see them very well from the Puente de San Pablo (San Pablo’s bridge).

One of these houses hosts the Museo de Arte Abstracto Espanol ( the Spanish Museum of Abstract Art), where the paintings of famous paintors such as Antoni Tapies and Antonio Saura can be admired by the tourists. On the other side of the bridge stays the Monasterio de los Paules. Just a few steps further you will find the Gothic and Renaissance Cathedral. Even though the cathedral has been built by combining two architectural types, the result is wonderful. Plaza Mayor is also a place where tourists enjoy  going. It is the scene of the processions that take place in the Bright Week, so it is a place especially loved by Christians.

Albacete

Albacete is isolated in the eastern part of the La Mancha region and it doesn’t have a lot of imposing monuments. But it is situated at the intersection of several roads, between the center of Spain, Valencia and Andalusia. However, you will find absolutely lovely vine crops there, that offer spectacular views. This is a city that once belonged to the Arabs, so their influence, with their culture, tradition and their customs has remained alive in the region.

They are the ones who brought here the art of creating knives, so you will be able to visit the Museo de la Cuchilleria (the Knives’ Museum). While here, also go to the Museo Arqueologico and to the Alcala del Jucar if you want to see a miniatural Cuenca; a village built in rock and dominated by a Moorish castle. The region will seem wonderful to you, once you give it a chance. It has a lot to offer, so your holiday will be a very pleasant one. Enjoy your stay!!!

Castilla De  La Mancha and the Lagoons of Ruidera

Tourism is a well known source of income in Spain. In this regard, the Spanish have always tried to improve areas with beautiful views, to develop new restaurants and other tourist attractions. Sagrada Familia, Santa Eularia, the Synagogues, and the Lagoons of Ruidera are only some of the beautiful places that you can admire while visiting Spain.

CASTILLA DE LA MANCHA

Once you have left behind the desert plains in the „La Mancha” region, two surprises will appear to you: Cuenca and Toledo. The bucolic hills and valleys of Extremadura lead you to historical towns like Caceres, Merida and Trujillo. This is a fertile territory between Madrid and Andaluzia. Apparently devoid of inhabitants, this region seems to be grayer than other parts of Spain, like Extremadura, Barcelona or Madrid. The biggest points of interest in Castilla de la Mancha are, without doubt, Toledo and Cuenca. Despite the fact that this area is totally devoted to tourism, it nevertheless keeps an affable and individualistic attmosphere.

THE LAGOONS OF RUIDERA

Ruidera is a small city in Ciudad Real, a region in Castilla de La Mancha. It has a small number of inhabitants and very poor resources, its  whole economy being based on tourism. The Lagoons of Ruidera are placed in the middle of the collection basin of the Alto Guadiana river. This fluvial area opens a large extention of about 4000 square kilometers, out of which 3772 square kilometers belong to the National Park (The Lagoons of Ruidera) . You can visit Ruidera via the national road N/340.

To continue visiting Ruidera and its lagoons, it is necessary first to go and see „The reception centre of the National Park” where you will find all you need in terms of information about this place.  Then go to the sorrounding water lagoons. „The Ray Lagoon” is the biggest in this complex. It is also the most attractive one, being full of restaurants, botanical gardens and amusement parks. Connected to the „Ryo Lagoon” through a small river, „Colgada Lagoon” is the second in terms of width.

The edge of this lagoon is very irregular and is almost 4 kilometers in length. ”Batana”, „Salvadora”, „Lengua”, „San Pedra”, „Tomatilla” or „Santo Morcillo” are other lagoons , each having its own unique characteristics, and you will be impressed by the beauty of these places where the water seems to be the most pure in the world. If you don’t have an entire week to discover this region of Spain, you can spend at least one day in this wonderful „Natural Park of Ruidera”.

Cabo de Gata

The unknown beauty

Few people have heard of Cabo de Gata and even fewer visit it. This small part of Spain is so beautiful that you will think you are in paradise once you step onto its territory. A very precise itinerary will take you from a village famous for its crafts to the typical arid landscapes of Andalusia. A few stops in fishing villages will be enough to give you the opportunity to admire the mountains and the sea. Most of this region is part of Cabo de Gata Nijar Natural Park.

Starting the journey

Nijar is the starting point in this special journey. The village is famous for its crafts. It is a typical Almerian village, with the houses crowded on the slopes of the Sierra de Alhamilla. The top of the hill is dominated by an old church, dating back to the XVth century; the church has an impressive Mudejar ceiling. When you are in Nijar, you must not miss the Plaza de Mercado. From there you can go down the main street, which is crowded with shops that sell jarapas (carpets and blankets made of wool and cotton), ceramic objects and baskets made of rigid herbs. Just 12 kilometers away, the Cabo de Grata Nijar Natural Park has its gates open for the tourists.

The road will first take you through a low sierra, with vegetation that contains yucca, cactuses and olives. You will reach Bocca de los Frailes and, while there, take your time to visit the stone, igloo shaped ovens. The locals used them in the past to bake bread. Continue your journey until you reach Pozo de los Frailes; the beautiful mill deserves your attention. This mill is the first one out of the 95 that you will meet along the way. A few more kilometers on and you will be able to enjoy the sun on the Playa de los Genovesses.

Playa de Monsul, four kilometers away, is the southernmost point in Spain. This type of holiday definitely requires you to have your own car, or at least a driver’s license, but you won’t regret such an experience. If you want to see Spain at its purist, as the ancestors left it, go to Cabo de Gata. Your unique experience will make you understand this culture better; it will help you understand the traditions of Spaniards and why they fight so much to keep the old together with the new.

Barcelona and its Districts

Unique Barcelona

This proud city is so popular among tourists because it radiates its own style; a unique one for Spain. The Gothic architecture, and the one typical for the XXth century combine with the architectural style of the contemporary buildings, the inviting shops both new and old, the innovative museums and the first class restaurants. Among the riches of Barcelona you will find the Roman ruins, as well as the modern contemporary architecture, with a sufficient dose of Gothic and modernist style (the Catalan Art Nouveau style). Great artists of the XXth century, like Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, or Antoni Tapies have their own museums dedicated to their lives and to their work.

The Districts

If you want to see everything that Barcelona has to offer you have to take it slowly, step by step, district by district. Start your journey with Barri Gotic. A walk here will take you through narrow streets, very evoking. These are the streets of the oldest district in Barcelona, with important monuments, such as the cathedral and the medieval palace, monuments that mirror the history of the city. The Barri Gotic district is famous for the Santa Maria del Pi Church, with its octogonal tower.

Go around the church in order to get to the Main Square, which is bordered by XVIIIth century buildings beautifully ornated, and admire the immense ”window with roses.” This window characterizes the entrance in the Gothic churches. The La Seu Cathedral is also located in Barri Gotic district. La Ribera is another district in Barcelona that deserves the tourists’ interest. The former residencial district hosts the Picasso Museum. It is also the place where you will find the very popular Gothic Church Santa Maria del Mar.

La Ramba is another district of Barcelona, where you will feel the spirit of the modern Barcelona. La Rambla is a district full of life and the most famous one in Barcelona. Its coffee shops, the comedians who entertain the tourists on the street, and the flower vendors will all create this unique charm of La Rambla. Last but not least on your list of sightseeing places is the La Sagrada Familia. The Cathedral is outstanding - absolutely breathtaking. You will definetely fall in love with it.

A Beautiful Holiday

The origin is still mysterious and the sports here are unique as well. You will however find untouched natural grounds such as Guernica River’s magical landscapes and the Urdaibai, Urkiola and Valderejo natural parks.

There is a lot of fun to be had in these areas as you can enjoy riding, hiking and golf, as well as exciting mountain sports. The Cantabrian Coast is also quite an attraction although it’s very steep and rainy sometimes. The rain here is unique as it is very fine and goes by the name ‘txirimiri; a raincoat will come in very handy when visiting this area. The city of San Sebastian has wonderful beaches and resorts that were famous in the 19th century; the atmosphere here is cosmopolitan. The waters are very cool and relaxing making it very attractive to tourists.

Bilbao is the largest city in the region and the center of beautiful monuments, such as the Gothic Cathedral and the Guggenheim museum that was erected in 1997. The museum is outstanding with its limestone, titanium stones and façade of glass. For cultural festivals, make a point of visiting Vitoria Gasteiz province. PLASENCIA AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

A unique country

Spain: an amazing country that attracts tourists with its unique architectural style, its breathtaking landscapes, its well preserved customs and traditions, the passionate flamenco dancers and the bullfights full of adrenaline.

Plasencia

One of the most beautiful places in Spain is Plasencia. Plasencia is a spectacular city situated on top of a reddish hill; it represents the departure point in exploring the Jerte Valley (Valle del Jerte). It is also the departure point for exploring the Valle de la Vera, the rustic place where the monastery that hosted Carlos the Vth lies. He wanted to live the last years of his life in this idyllic, quite place, as the burden of being the Emperor of the Roman Empire had exhausted him. The main attraction in Plasencia is the Cathedral. Just like the one in Salamanca, it combines two architectural styles: the old cathedral, dating back to the XIVth century, was built following the Gothic style.

The new Cathedral was finished at the end of the XVIth century in a Renaissance style. The cathedral is known as the most decorated building in the region. When in front of it, be sure to admire the San Pablo tower, the northern Plateresque portal and the sculptures on the main altar. Once you are finished with the cathedral, go to Plaza Mayor. Imposing manors border the streets around the square, where every Tuesday you’ll find a rich market; it has been held every Tuesday since the Middle Ages.

While you are still in Plasencia, go to the Del Dean House, the Episcopal Palace, the Casa de las Dos Torres and the Ethnografic Museum.Valle del Jerte is full of oaks, but it is famous for its cherry trees; more than thirty types of cherries can delight your senses. If you are on holiday in May, visit the Valdastillas village: you will have a chance to experience the family traditions in the area. The families pick and sort the cherries and the tourists can go on a trip to the numerous factories that transform the cherries into liqueur.

Accommodation

Plasencia is a very picturesque region of Spain. Very rural and rustic but charming, the area attracts thousands of tourists every year. Excursions of Salamanca, Spain

Salamanca is one of Spain’s cities that have a lot going on, making it worth visiting. What makes this city attractive to a majority of people are the nearby mountain ranges. These are the De Bejar and Sierra de Francia mountain ranges on the southern side of the city. There is also a granite canyon called Los Arribes that forms the frontier of Portugal and Spain. Campo Charro, containing oak woods and wide beautiful meadows, attracts many. This area is situated between the Tajo and Tormes rivers, making it exquisite. It is famed for bull breeding in the oak forest.

Places to visit

For a great view of the region, consider visiting La Sierra de Francia mountain range. It has very green romantic and beautiful valleys. Las Batuecas is a village offering a spiritual and peaceful stay and is in a preserved wild life area.

Alberca, which is near the mountain, was the first village to be termed a national monument because of its beauty. Other beautiful villages here include Miranda del Castanar and Seqeros, not forgetting Mogarraz. Please your eyes by giving the villages a visit.

La Sierra de Bejar is worth visiting for its fame in textile production. It is home to Plaza de Toros, a popular bullring and the oldest in Spain.

For Christians, Alba de Tomes, home to Convento de las Carmelitas as well as the Church of San Juan, should give much pleasure. There are interesting buildings dating back to the 12th century, which are examples of amazing architectural styles.

Apart from Salamanca, Spain has other very interesting cities holding different treasures for the country. The fact that the different treasured aspects are spread all over the country makes every region and city unique in its own way; all of them are worth visiting. You will never run out of things to see and do whichever region you choose to visit. Barcelona

A beautiful city

Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and the capital of Catalonia. It is not only a fast growing economic centre, but also one of the most important Mediterranean ports in Europe and the 4th most visited city in the continent. Barcelona was first a Roman city, but the Counts of Barcelona made it their capital. Having a vast cultural heritage, seven beaches and a modern part of the city, Barcelona is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain.

What is worth visiting?

This privileged city - a Mediterranean one, enjoys a Mediterranean climate which makes possible the long use of its seven beaches. The parks are a wonderful attraction; there are 68 of them, 12 being historic parks while 5 of them are thematic ones. Perhaps one of the most popular is Park Guell, designed by Antonio Gaudi. It is not the only thing he designed in Barcelona. He also designed La Sagrada Familia, the Roman Catholic Church still under construction, visited by thousands of tourists every day. It is an imposing building which has become a symbol of Barcelona.La Ciutat Vella (The Old City) is the place where the gothic buildings and the sites with a medieval flagrance remind us of the flourishing era of Barcelona, the era when the city was born. For the sports lovers, Camp Nou Stadium should not be missed.

It hosts the FC Barcelona football club, a football club that has fans all around the world. The Museums in Barcelona cover vast periods and eras of the country in general and the city in particular: the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art shows both Catalan and Spanish art objects; the Archeology Museum of Catalonia, the Maritime Museum and the Egyptian Museum also hold collections worth visiting for their importance in the history of the country. Barcelona is a marvel of art, style, culture and architecture; a city which offers a surreal image for the one who takes the first steps on its streets.

Where to sleep?

Accommodation should not be a problem in Barcelona. Besides the exquisite hotels, tourists also have villas at their disposal. The villas in Sitges or the ones in Canet de Mar have modern designs and offer very good conditions at lower prices than the ones in hotels. They are perfect for a low budget vacation; the villas are also preferred by some tourists because they give them the privacy that they would not have had if they chose a hotel. So if you are in search of a special holiday destination, choose Barcelona! You will not regret it.

VISIT SPAIN

Spain-simply surprising

If you are in search of the perfect holiday destination, Spain can be the one that can surprise you. It is a country in which the spectacular bullfights mingle with the passionate flamenco dances and which has very diverse landscapes that resemble both the north west of Africa and the typical European green hills. The exquisite diversity of the country is reflected in the language, culture and cuisine of its regions Andalucia, Aragon, Balearic Islands, Catalonia and Madrid.

Festivals or should we say “fiestas”?

A big attraction for tourists is the diversity of festivals. These festivals bring together a spectacle of life, joy, romance and tradition. If there is one thing that Spaniards love, it is their country and their tradition. The bull running festival in Pamplona attracts many strangers, tourists who come for the adrenaline that marks the beginning of the fiesta in honor of Saint Fermin, the patron of the city. If you are looking for a demonstration of courage, adrenaline, tradition and fiesta spirit, Pamplona is the right place for you. After the fiesta, you can either visit the city which provides an architectural spectacle or you can relax by visiting the surroundings which offer breathtaking landscapes.

Main sights

For those who wonder what is worth visiting in Pamplona, they will find that the city is outstanding: gothic cathedrals with neoclassical facades, remains of the city walls built in order to resist artillery sieges and baroque architecture present since the eighteenth century with the town hall, the Episcopal palace and a few mansions. The parks in Pamplona are a very romantic presence, having very wide paths and moderns sculptures; there is even a Japanese garden which stands as proof that Spaniards are able to implement the new into the old in their towns without spoiling the spirit.

Accommodation

The best type of accommodation in Pamplona is in private villas. They are important especially if you are visiting Pamplona during the bull running festival: they have the conditions found in hotels but offer balconies from which you can have easy access to watching the run. In addition to that, they are a lot cheaper. The villas are luxury properties in which you can feel and taste the country, its savors and fragrances. For example, San Martin de Amescoa is a very welcoming place for accommodation near Pamplona. This
wonderful destination should be on your holiday list as it is one that suggests the relationship between the old and the new.

Madrid

Why Madrid?

Madrid is the capital of Spain and its largest city. It stands in the centre of the country on the river Manzanares. The history of Madrid is very vast: it seems like it has been occupied ever since pre-historic times, but there are also remains found dating back to the Visigoth era. The modern city of Madrid started with the rule of Mohammad I, who ordered the construction of a palace; Palacio Real stands today on the same place. Just like Barcelona, Madrid enjoys a Mediterranean climate, which makes it possible to visit throughout the whole year.

Madrid is a town that impresses through its architecture. Palacio Real is a very important sight of the city, especially because it is surrounded by al-Mudaina, a small citadel. Earlier a mosque, the citadel is now a church that honors the Virgin of Almudena. The Bourbon kings left a Baroque heritage: The Royal Palace of Madrid and Paseo del Prado stand as proof. A second cathedral in honor of Virgin of Almudena was constructed, this time in a Gothic style. All these architectural styles have been mixed with modern constructions in such a way so as not to spoil their importance and spirit. The financial district is formed of modern buildings connected by metro or railway.

An oasis in the middle of the city

Madrid is well known for the large number of green spaces. They are like oasis in the middle of civilization. Right in the centre of Madrid stands Parque del Retiro. It has been built for Felipe IV and is now the most popular park in Madrid. There is a huge lake in the middle of it, which once used to house battles in order to amuse the king. Casa de Campo is the largest green area in Madrid, the place where the Madrid Zoo is found. The Faunia theme park is a big attraction for tourists: it is both a history museum and a zoo, gathering eight eco-systems with more than 1,500 animals. Some of these animals are permitted to roam freely.

Amusement

Madrid has a very active nightlife: night destinations for tourists are Bilbao, Alonso Martinez and Tribunal. Besides the nightlife, tourists can amuse themselves with a football game: Santiago Bernabeu is the home of Real Madrid, one of the most powerful football teams in the world. The atmosphere is hot at every game played by the team and supporters say that it is a feeling which cannot be compared to anything. As you can see, Madrid gives the tourists a huge range of activities to choose from and this makes it a great holiday destination.

Beach Galore at Mallorca

The Island of Majorca is also known as Mallorca with a small population of only 581,564. This island is not very big, as it spans only 3,640 square kilometer or 120 km from one end to the other end, which is equivalent to the distance of Cape Formentor lighthouse to Puerto de San Telm.Tourists tend to favor the coastline of the island, without discovering the spectacular mountains and plains of the inland. The island’s capital is Palma which holds an estimated 300,000 residents; that is more than half the total island population. Its coastline stretches for about 15 km, covering towns and cosmopolitan districts, specifically from Palma beach to Cala Mayor.

Main Industry

Tourism is the heartbeat of this island. Since, as early as 1920s, it developed from a small scale of winter tourism to a large scale today, after the Spanish Civil War. Majorca was crowded with aspiring artists, who displayed their skills to carve their names for fame in Pollensa, such as Anglada Camarassa. These aspirants were challenged to design and construct Hotel Formentor in 1929. An Argentinian entrepreneur, named Adan Dihel, suffered much hardship personally to achieve his aspiration in building the grandest hotel on a beach, which is not conducive for relaxation and holidaying.

Nevertheless, the famed Hotel Formentor changed the island’s destiny in the tourism industry, as many other hotels got on the band wagon.Restaurants, pubs, discos, dances, cafes, entertainment outlets and amusement parks sprang up to complement the hotels’ functions and services; thus, fuelling the tourism in Majorca till today.

Numerous Beach choices

Illetes is a shoreline, where two coves are located, each at 75meters and 150meters. It is lined with fresh pine trees swaying in the breeze, making the place picturesque, especially with its excellent sand.

Portals Nous is a renowned beach that has been urbanely developed over the years, with magnificent structures and buildings.

Palma Nova has an impressive beach that is filled with fine sand, pine groves and good installations.

Magaluf and Santa Ponsa also boast of a magnificent beach. These are covered with refined sand leading to crystal clear water that is ever so inviting for a swim.

Peguera is an interesting and beautiful tourist resort, with lush pine trees surrounding its quiet beach of fine sand.

Cala Fornells is a small beach that also has fine sand.

Puerto de Andratx is an easy way to reach Camp de Mar beach as well as San Telm. It is the Dragonera Island which shelters San Telm beach, to give it a relaxing atmosphere, along with the pinewoods.

There are beaches galore on the east and north-east of Majorca. Anyone would wish to visit that part of the island. An interesting stop would be Banyalbufer which has only 535 inhabitants, but with magnificent coves nearby, that are worth exploring. The typical scenery here is tomato fields.

Valdemossa has a population of 1,300 houses, a monastery and a small port nearby. Whereas Deia, has only 414 locals, is a picturesque village on the mountain, with a small beach and Llucalcari coves.

Puerto de Soller’s beach is unique, as it is semi-circular in shape, to cater to its 1,000 inhabitants. Its beach is only 1km long. It is up to you to take time, to stroll around the island to check out its numerous beaches and enjoy the sun and the scenery.

Relaxing in Menorca

Menorca has only 62,000 inhabitants on its sunny Mediterranean island with the Mediterranean sun shining down on its impressive whitewashed homes, reflecting the dazzle of white all around. The complementary lush countryside against the bright blue sky and turquoise sea brings a relaxing atmosphere to this amazing island with just these basic colors of Menorca: white, green and blue. Stepping on the island is like reaching your favorite destination, such as in the Promised Land effect, as the locals and everything else are nice and simple. However, it’s very strange that Menorca is not as renowned as other Spanish regions in the eyes of worldwide tourism.

About the island

Menorca’s coastline is ever changing with its solid rocks, coves and beaches that are magnificent and relaxing. Some are secluded and away from public scrutiny while others are up for discovery, with many taking on some form of development at the moment. This island is only 47 km by 15 km with a 200 km coastline. As such, it is all coasts for Menorca. The only factor that is constant on this island is the Mediterranean Sea, which gushes all around. It is an ideal spot for all water sports, with the immense number of coves and naturally formed harbors. The landscape in general is quite level with Mount Toro being the highest point, where a shrine stands commemorating a patron saint of the island.

The shortest route to this island is via Barcelona by sea or via Palma by ferry. Regular flights from Barcelona make this island quite accessible in order to behold its unique English characteristics with Mah architecture on the local houses. The northern port side holds the San Antonio Estate or better known as the Golden Farm, which was purportedly, by legend, Admiral Nelson’s residence while on the island.

Spots of Interest in Menorca

Mercada which has only 3,000 inhabitants lies inland of the island with Es Migjorn, 9 km away and the amazing Arenal den Castell beach 10 km away.Ferreries, having 3,076 inhabitants, is located right at the island’s centre, with its pretty and picturesque white and red houses. Cala Sant Galdana is a cove close to Ferreries that gives a breath taking scenery amongst the rocks and lush pine trees that are over 100 years old.Ciutadella is an extremely traditional fishing village with 19,311 locals and a cathedral, a pre-historic tomb and excellent beaches.

The tomb of Els Tudons is the biggest among its kind and the preservation works have been very commendable. It is surrounded by scaling pine groves, amidst a large port that has been naturally developed. It is a summer holiday spot that has grown in popularity.Punta Prima is where you’d want to enjoy the soft beach of fine sand.
